Lifecycle and support
How Cenovel releases are named, how long each major version gets security fixes, and what happens when one leaves support.

Releases and their names
Each major version has a name: Agate 1, Opal 2, Citrine 3, and so on. A new major comes about once a year. Within it, minor releases such as Agate 1.1 add features, and patch releases such as Agate 1.0.1 make smaller improvements and fixes. Urgent security fixes ship as soon as they are ready.
Cenovel never pushes an update. Each district installs releases on its own appliance, on its own schedule.
How long each major is supported
- The current major gets new features, fixes and security fixes.
- The previous major gets security fixes for 12 months after the next major ships.
- Older majors are out of support: no fixes. Upgrade to a supported release.
| Major | Status | Security fixes until |
|---|---|---|
| Agate 1 | Current, since October 2026 | 12 months after Opal 2 ships |
| Opal 2 | Not yet released | 12 months after Citrine 3 ships |
When a release leaves support
Nothing on the appliance changes. Cenovel doesn’t check the version from outside, and support status never limits the console or its license. An appliance on an unsupported release keeps running, but it no longer gets security fixes, so plan the upgrade before support ends.
Upgrading
Each release’s notes say what to know before upgrading. Upgrades are signed bundles, checked before anything is staged, and run preflight checks and a readiness gate. Take a backup first.
