K-12 and Enterprise editions

What the K-12 and Enterprise editions of Cenovel include, the words that change between them, the fiscal year and how the Enterprise edition counts devices.

ConceptReviewed against the application source on October 12, 2026

One console, two editions

Cenovel comes in a K-12 edition for school districts and an Enterprise edition for companies, health systems, colleges and public agencies. Both are the same release. The signed license file decides the edition; no setting, address or account can change it. A console without a license, or with an older license, is the K-12 edition.

What the license countsStudentsDevices

A feature that is not part of an edition is gone everywhere: from the sidebar, search, tabs, Home, exports, emails and the API. Everything else is the same in both editions.

Words that change

K-12 saysEnterprise says
districtorganization
schoollocation
District standardOrganization standard
District coreOrganization core
district fiscal yearfiscal year

“Site” is the same in both. The K-12 words are exactly as before. In the Enterprise edition, E-Rate, funding years, C2 and the school day never appear. New modular buildings are tagged MOD- in the Enterprise edition and BOE- in K-12; existing tags never change.

When an Enterprise license is imported into a console whose starter site types nobody has changed or used, they become Office, Data center, Warehouse and Branch in place of the school types.

Set the fiscal year (Enterprise)

  1. As an Administrator EX, open Settings › System › Deployment and find the Fiscal year card.
  2. Choose the month in Fiscal year starts in and save. Reports group spending and replacements by it, and a fiscal year is named for the calendar year it ends in.

How devices are counted (Enterprise)

Each device Cenovel polls at a management address counts as one device; an access point counts as a quarter of one. Records with no management address are inventory only and are not counted. Settings › System › License lists the counted devices. Going over the licensed count is a notice only: Cenovel keeps polling every device and nothing is limited.
