Change a switch port

Turn a port on or off, change its description, VLAN or PoE, or bounce it, from the switch page, with a dry run, a reachability verdict and an automatic undo.

GuideReviewed against the application source on October 12, 2026

Before you start

  • An Administrator EX turns on Let Cenovel change switch ports in Settings › System › Features. It is off until then.
  • You need edit rights on the switch to prepare a change; only Administrators apply one.
  • The switch needs a working SSH credential and approved host key, or Juniper Mist with a write-capable token for a Mist-managed switch.

Steps

  1. On the switch page, select the port or ports and choose Configure at the foot of the selection. For switch-wide settings, choose More › Configure switch. The page shows Configuring the switch, with the port view kept and the cards below it replaced by the change.
  2. Set what you need: Port profile (start from a template or another port), Basics (on or off, description), VLANs (access and voice VLAN), Speed and PoE (PoE on or off, Bounce port, Cycle PoE), and Spanning tree and security (edge port, BPDU guard). A port’s mode and trunk VLANs are shown, not changed.
  3. Open Review. Read the verdict and the dry run: the commands, or the configuration after. Give the reason in Why.
  4. Choose Apply, or Apply anyway if the change has a warning you accept. Cenovel follows each step on the page; the switch’s own timer undoes the change if Cenovel loses it.
  5. Choose Done. Cancel asks before discarding unsaved work.

Where changes are listed

Open changes appear in a note at the top of the switch page, and every switch change is on Network › Configuration changes under Switch changes and Finished in the last week, with port templates and the change timers: Undo timer (minutes), 2 to 30, and Alert window (minutes), 10 to 240. A change applied over a warning is marked so. The switch’s Changes made card lists the last 90 days.
