GuideReviewed against the application source on October 12, 2026

What Locate does

Which of these switches is the one on my screen? Locate blinks a switch’s or access point’s locator light for five minutes so someone in the closet can find it. It sends the vendor’s own locator command, or Juniper Mist’s locate call, and never changes configuration. Every locate is recorded in the audit log.

Who can use it

  • Operators, Administrators and Administrator EX, with view rights on the equipment. Others are refused, and the refusal is audited.
  • It is on by default under Let Cenovel blink locator lights in Settings › System › Features. Turned off, nothing is blinked.
  • For a Mist-managed device, it uses the Mist connection’s write-capable credential.

Blink a light

  1. On a switch, choose Locate in the Ports card’s head; it opens on the stack member in view. On an access point, choose More › Locate.
  2. On a stack, choose which member in Which member.
  3. Choose Start blinking. The page then says the device is blinking until a time, who started it and when.
  4. Choose Stop blinking to end it sooner. Otherwise the light turns itself off after five minutes, even if Cenovel restarts.

Limits

  • One locate at a time per device, and at most four per device in ten minutes.
  • If the light doesn’t turn off, Cenovel tries three times about a minute apart, then says the light may still be blinking and offers Try to stop it again.
