Run a read-only script

Write, publish and run saved scripts of read-only show lines against up to 10 switches, with typed values and output you can compare.

GuideReviewed against the application source on October 12, 2026

Ask many switches the same thing

A script is a saved set of read-only show lines, written for each operating system (Cisco IOS and IOS XE, Junos, Extreme Switch Engine, Extreme Fabric Engine and HiveOS), with typed values asked for when it runs. It is on Network › Device logs › Scripts, behind the Scripts switch in Settings › System › Features, off until a district turns it on.

Write and publish a script (Administrators)

  1. Choose New script, name it and add lines for each operating system, up to 40 each.
  2. Add up to six values of kind Port, VLAN, MAC address or IP address. Each is checked by its kind, so a value can never carry a second command, and a value can stand only where Cenovel’s read list takes one, such as show ip arp {ip}.
  3. Read each line’s mark: Allowed; Not on Cenovel’s read list, which can stay in a draft but blocks publishing; or Changes the device: never sent, which can’t be saved.
  4. Choose Save, then Publish revision. Operators can run it from then on, always at its published revision. Retire withdraws it.

Run a script (Operators and up)

  1. Choose Run on a published script.
  2. Choose the switches, up to 10, or every switch at a school, and fill in its values.
  3. The reads go from the appliance, or from the school’s site collector when it has one. Each switch’s output appears on the terminal backdrop, with a SHA-256 and Compare with last run.

Recent runs lists who asked; runs started by an automation say so. A person can start six runs a minute. Nothing that could change a device is ever sent.
