Diagnose a room

Turn a help-desk report about a room into one screen: the access points, ports and jacks serving it, their state, the way up and recent changes.

A help-desk report names a room

Room 214 can’t connect: what serves it, and is it working? Open Network › Room diagnostics, or Room diagnostics on a site’s page, or search for the room.

  1. In Find a room, type the room from the report, such as 214 or Library, and pick the school if needed. Choose the room.
  2. Read the verdict at the top, dated. Then Access points serving this room, Switch ports serving this room (a port tied by its description is marked Inferred), Wall jacks in this room, The way up to the first switch that is not answering, open outages and the recent changes.
  3. Choose Read again for a fresh look, Test reachability when network tests are on, or Choose another room.

It is read-only. It says a device is “not answering Cenovel”, and what it does not know, such as neighboring access points that cover the room, is said to be not recorded. Viewing it also needs view rights on Site equipment; an administrator grants both in Settings › People and access.
